The company’s modest beginnings date back to 1969 in the North of Montreal, when Robert Hamelin began manufacturing PVC Flexible profiles with the purchase of his first extruder to serve the window and door weatherstripping industry. The purchase of the first injection molding machine to manufacture plastic parts, mainly for the household appliance sector for large companies, followed shortly afterwards.

Market research revealed the potential for a plastic wheel. An alternative to the traditional wheel on the market (a metal pinned wheel, covered with a rubber band). Processes were developped and a machine was created to automatically and continously produce tires. The market responded well to this innovation. It was an important turning point in the company’s development. Today, our wheels can be found in Canada and in various export markets on lawnmowers, carriages, strollers, grocery and golf carts, wheelbarrows, and more.
Establishment of a plant in Warsaw, Indiana, to manufacture wheels and meet American demand. All the industrial equipment from the Warsaw Plant was designed, developed and manufactured by Hamelin Group in Canada.
Acquisition of a second 17,000 sq. ft. plant in Boucherville to support development.
Acquisition of Genpak Inc. in Cookshire, Quebec; an important manufacturer of rigid packaging for the food and industrial sectors.
Acquisition of 100% of the assets of a plastics processing group owned by Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ).

On this occasion, C.D.P.Q. acquired a 30% stake in Hamelin Group inc.
Acquisition of Acripak, Toronto, Ontario, which manufactured rigid containers for the food industry. Acquisition of a 125,000 sq. ft. building in Boucherville to consolidate the two Boucherville plants.
Acquisition of Laboratoire Aérosol, Saint-Hubert, Quebec, to serve the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and household products industries.

Today, Hamelin Group inc. is still 100% owned by the Hamelin family.
